My early training began in the age of analog, shooting on manual 35mm film cameras and learning traditional darkroom techniques to develop film and create prints. I continued my education obtaining degrees in both Cinematography and Visual Communications.
When digital cameras came into prominence I was gifted with my first ‘point and shoot’, happily using several models of those to take casual snapshots for many years.
I eventually decided to get serious in improving my skills and images, and I acquired my first entry-level DSLR.
Using that to practice shooting portraits and events for friends and family, it finally occurred to me that maybe this could be more than just an enjoyable interest. I then began investing in upgraded equipment, and went back to school to get the additional training necessary to make the jump from passion to profession.
Before that (and overlapping with), I spent most of my occupational life in the tech world largely in systems administration, network architecture, and web developing. I eventually began working as an in-house/staff photographer for various companies, then after a few years I decided to take ‘the big leap’ and transitioned from being an employee to a full-time freelancer, and I have never looked back!
Along with my private clients, I also work with several creative agencies who specialize in pairing brands with the right talent for their photography projects. I also shoot stock photos for Getty, Adobe, (and other platforms), along with selling my fine-art B&W white prints on Etsy. You can also find my artwork in 90 of the rooms of the the Moxy Hotel in Columbus, Ohio!
My cozy private studio/office is nestled in the heart of Bushwick, steps from the Knickerbocker M train stop, or a short walk from the J (Gates Ave) or L (Myrtle/Wyckoff) train stops, in a brand new building with all modern amenities.
It is outfitted with white furnishings, cool grey walls, dark hardwood floors, live plants, natural window light, freestanding continuous ring light (and 2 on-camera ring-lights: one continuous and one flash), 2 large softbox lights, off-camera speedlight and stand, umbrellas, tripods, reflectors, and tons of other photography gear and accessories to make your shoot professional and attractive.
Generally speaking, my studio is best suited for product shoots (especially home decor items), and basic portrait/headshot sessions for 1-2 people.
All studio work is done by appointment only, and closed on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Also available, weather permitting, is an ample rooftop with great views of the surrounding area!
